8 spring cleaning tips easy cleanersSpring cleaning is a great way to get your house spick and span but can feel like a huge job, and a lot of us don’t really know where to start. We Buy Any House have contributed some of their favourite top tips to starting a big clean, and hope that they will help you too!

1. Get the Right Supplies

To do a proper clean, you need to have the right stuff to do a good job. Go through your cleaning cupboard and make sure that you’ve got everything you need before you start; otherwise, you’ll just cause yourself delays partway through, and this can end up in you not finishing. You don’t need to spend a huge amount of money on your cleaning products, but make sure you’ve got the right things for what you want to do, and don’t forget to get some sponges and rubber gloves to keep your hands safe!

2. Do the Jobs You Put Off Normally

While we tend to do regular cleans of our homes, they aren’t always deep cleans, which is why it’s important to focus on those areas when the big spring clean comes around. When was the last time you cleaned the oven or scrubbed the drawers in the bottom of the fridge, which almost always seems to build up some dirt? There’s a reason that we put these jobs off because they’re the most work, but once they’re done, you’ll feel so much better - and it will make a big difference to your kitchen!

3. Tackle That Hair-Dye in the Bathroom

Especially after a year in and out of lockdown, a huge amount of us have reached for box dye while the hairdressers have been closed and managed to stain the tiles or the grouting in the bathroom. There are a few options that you can try before contacting professional cleaners, such as –

• Using ‘The Pink Stuff’ paste on tiles or the bath. Make sure that you read instructions carefully before using, but this paste is a bargain buy and a staple in millions of homes now – it also does an incredible job on oven doors and hobs!

• Spraying mould and mildew spray on grouting to remove any colour staining. This can save you from regrouting the bathroom, which is a job no one wants to take on.

4. Declutter, Declutter, Declutter

Spring is the perfect time to declutter and clean your home, especially after the festive season. It’s best to declutter before you start your cleaning, otherwise, you’ll be moving things to clean around them and then only getting rid of them anyway. Decluttering helps to leave your house feeling bigger, more organised and can even reduce stress if you’ve got a lot of stuff that’s in the way. Focus on clearing small areas at a time to keep your motivation up, and you’ll see a big difference very quickly.

5. Don’t Forget the Skirting Boards

A lot of the time, we don’t even give skirting boards a second glance, but during a big clean, if you look, you’ll probably see that they’ve got a good layer of dust on them just waiting to be cleaned. Giving the skirting boards a scrub can make them look like new, especially if you didn’t realise just how dusty they are, and this will help to brighten the entire room with just a quick wipe over.

6. Mirrors and Windows

These are commonly overlooked, and after you take a look and notice all of those little smudges, you won’t be able to walk away without giving your mirrors and windows a good clean. Make sure that you’re using the right supplies and have a good glass cleaner – for mirrors, wiping them dry with newspaper helps to get a streak-free clean. A lot of us think that having our windows cleaned is enough, but remember, that’s only the outside – the inside will benefit from a clean now and again and will let more light into your home.

7. Shake’n’Vac

Shake’n’vac has become popular across the country, and you can now get your hands on all sorts of scents that will leave your carpets clean and your house smelling incredible in no time at all. It’s easy to use, just shake over the carpet in your home and then vacuum it up after the suggested timeframe. This is great for anyone with pets that find the smell hangs in rooms and is a firm favourite in keeping a house smelling clean.

8. Get Professionals to Help

Sometimes, it’s just easier to get some help to do a deep spring clean, especially if you don’t have the time or the energy to do it yourself. This way, you can let them do the more intense aspects of the cleaning and then maintain it, making it easier on yourself.

After a good clean, we always feel a sense of achievement and peace that doesn’t come from many other jobs, so sit back and enjoy the results of your hard work!
