vinegar lemon cleaning tips easy cleanersHome insurance company,, have analysed online ‘cleaning hack’ lists to reveal the top cleaning hacks that are talked about online.

As well as this, they looked at which ingredients were mentioned the most, and there were a lot featured that everyone has around their home, that they can use for day-to-day cleaning.

1. Vinegar

Vinegar was listed in 144 online hacks, making it the most-mentioned substance on the internet for cleaning. What makes it even better, is that it’s super cheap to buy, and majority of households already have it laying around. So, we spoke to our cleaning experts to find out their favourite hacks.

“As mentioned on the cleaning campaign, vinegar can be used to clean some nasty limescale from a showerhead. If you fill a plastic bag with vinegar around half-way, and wrap the bag around your showerhead until the showerhead is deep in the substance, leave it to soak for around 45 minutes and the shower head should come out limescale-free!”

“We always remember to clean washing machines when we’re cleaning, but it’s definitely the appliance that many people forget about when it comes to cleaning. Add two cups of white vinegar to your washing machine drawer, and run on a regular hot wash. This will conquer the build up of grime that you’ve likely accumulated over the years.”

2. Baking Soda

According to the research, the top hack that was listed online was using baking-soda and water to combat stains. Our cleaning experts at Easy Cleaners talk about how you can do this successfully.

“Mixing together baking soda with water will form a paste-like substance, which is great for getting out some serious stains. You need around six tablespoons of baking soda, with a third of a cup of water. Use this paste with a damp cloth to dab on the stain, and hopefully the stain should be removed from the materials!”.

“Baking soda is amazing for many things, but one of the best things to use it on is your sink. If you’re getting a funny smell from your plug hole, which is likely due to grease build up and the sauces and foods that end up in the hole, then pour down some baking soda followed by some boiling hot water.”

3. Lemon

Microwaves are probably the one appliance in the house that we use at least once or twice a day for most families. This is a reason why it should be the main appliance to keep clean and freshly smelling. Our cleaning experts discuss how to use lemon and water to make sure this happens:

“Microwaving a mix of lemon juice, or half a lemon, alongside some boiling hot water in a microwavable bowl will leave the microwave smelling fresh. I’d recommend doing this for around 3-5 minutes and the steam starts working the magic! Once the steam has cooled down, wipe it down with a microfibre cloth.”
